  • Revolving thoughts

You know those revolving sushi bars where you sit down at a table and the food passes you by on a conveyor belt? You grab the items that look good to you, and you let the rest pass you by. I think that’s a good illustration of our thoughts.

In this illustration our brain is the chef, and the food is our thoughts.

Our brain sends the thoughts that seem good at the time. We choose what thoughts to take. The brain tries to be a good chef. It notices what items we take and starts to produce more of the same (or similar). If something is never chosen, the chef might just stop making it. But the chef still tries new things once in a while. Maybe the new items will be a hit or maybe they will make us sick. But the chef’s job is to be creative and try to make us happy.

The important point of this analogy is that we can be picky about our thoughts, and we can train our minds to produce better thoughts. Also, it is unavoidable to have negative thoughts once in a while. That doesn’t mean we have to entertain those thoughts, or that we are negative people at our core. We just let those thoughts pass us by.
